“Ginger Roots,” “Stitching Images,” and “What I Want” by Sarah Dickenson Snyder appeared in Issue 34 and can be read here.
We’d love to hear more about this set of poetry.
Each of these poems has seen many iterations, created initially through free writing, letting my hand lead me down the page. I am always pushing myself to be open to surprise. These three poems surprised me a lot.
What was the most difficult part of writing this set?
Sometimes it’s hard to trust myself enough to write without censure.
Recommend a book for us which was published within the last decade.
It’s so hard to narrow down that request to one book! I just finished The Lincoln Highway and loved it, maybe because I love The Odyssey so much.
If you could have a drink with any living author, who would it be? Why?
I would love to have a drink with Ada Limón; I love her poetry, and her voice is so appealing on her podcast.
What are you working on now? What’s next?
I have a collection of poems coming out in 2023 from Lily Poetry Review Books, a press I am so proud to be a part of. Eileen Cleary and Christine Jones have created such a kind, supportive community of poets. I’m honored to be among them. I’ll be working on getting that manuscript ready for publication. Also, my husband and I are in the middle of a four-month trip, and I am working on being present wherever I am. I am writing in my journal and look forward to composing and stretching and allowing that writing to become poems when I get home.
